The particularity of the vertical motor structure
Compared with horizontal motors, vertical motors, especially large-sized vertical motors, have their own particularity in their bearing systems, which use angular contact ball bearings at one end of the motor. Due to the particularity of the angular contact ball bearing structure, the bearing assembly direction must not be reversed, otherwise the bearing will be directly scrapped. When the bearing is not in place or the axial fit of the bearing itself is misaligned when the motor is running, it may cause the motor to vibrate abnormally and make strange noises.
Angular contact ball bearings are also commonly used in gear reducers, pumps, worm gear drives, vertical shafts and machine tool spindles where axial forces are large, and they are often installed in various paired combinations.
Features of angular contact ball bearings
Single-row angular contact ball bearings are designed for combined loads and can carry large thrust in one direction. Most vertical motors use a set of single-row angular contact ball bearings at the non-shaft extension end for axial forces that are high enough to exceed the axial forces that deep groove ball bearings can withstand. In terms of size, they can be interchanged with single-row deep groove bearings of corresponding motors, avoiding a series of unpredictable problems caused by redesigning structural parts.
Angular contact ball bearing load mode in vertical motor
Angular contact ball bearings are used in vertical motors to apply an axial force that is balanced with the weight of the motor rotor to ensure that the axial relative position of the rotor and stator is balanced. When the angular contact ball bearing is located below the motor rotor, it is a lifting mode; when it is located above the motor rotor, it is a hanging mode.
Why is it easy for the bearing to be misaligned?
Whether it is installed by lifting or hanging, during the operation of the motor, in addition to the matching relationship of the axial dimensions, the magnetic center lines of the stator and rotor are automatically aligned under the action of electromagnetic force after the motor is powered on, which may cause the axial displacement of the rotor. Due to the inevitable accumulated errors in the processing of parts and the deviation of the whole machine assembly, the actual displacement will cause the axial misalignment of the bearing itself to varying degrees. When the bearing is seriously misaligned, the electromagnetic force of the spontaneous alignment and the gravity of the rotor become the exciting forces that increase and decrease, aggravating the noise and vibration of the bearing.
Countermeasures
In the motor design process, the bearing stress should be carefully analyzed, possible axial excitation force should be fully considered, and more attention should be paid to the selection of motor bearing structure, such as the matching of angular contact ball bearings, the stop and control of the bearing axial direction, the three-bearing structure of the motor, the proper pre-dislocation of the motor stator and rotor, and other specific measures. Among them, the pre-dislocation size of the motor stator and rotor must be moderate, otherwise the result will be counterproductive.
