In 1947 it was incorporated into the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as an electrotechnical division, and in 1976 it was spun off from ISO. The purpose is to promote international cooperation on all issues related to electrotechnical standardization in the fields of electrotechnical, electronic and related technologies, such as conformity assessment of standards.
